The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was founded in May 1981 to facilitate cooperation in the economic and security fields.

  • Comprises Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain
  • Controls 45% of the world’s total proven oil reserves and 20% of the world’s proven gas reserves
  • Population of 44.3 million
  • Hydrocarbon revenue made up 92% of its budget and 74% of its export revenue in 2011
